Join us for another of BRAGB’s popular Lunch & Learn presentations.  This Lunch & Learn brings two of Greater Boston’s leading property and casualty insurance brokers specializing in the building and construction industries (and BRAGB members) together to share their knowledge on the various considerations that builders need to be aware of when engaging with their Workers” Compensation insurance program(s).  Hear about best practices and common pitfalls and real-life examples surrounding all aspects of the Workers’ Compensation insurance marketplace and ecosystem in Massachusetts.  

This session will cover the following highlights:

  1. How is coverage priced?  Discussion of common builders’ classification codes and rates.
  2. What is a deviation, and how do you get one (if possible)?
  3. How do claims impact Workers’ Compensation pricing? 
  4. What is an Experience Modification Rating (EMR or “mod”) factor, what is an ARAP, and how are they calculated?
  5. Common audit issues, mistakes, and how to avoid them.
  6. Common claim issues, mistakes, and how to avoid them.
  7. State of the Workers’ Compensation insurance marketplace in MA.


About Our Presenters:

Greg Pierce is Senior Vice President with NorthStar Insurance Services, one of New England’s leading independent insurance brokerage firms.  Greg specializes in working with real estate, building and construction industry clients throughout New England to structure and implement comprehensive, cost-effective insurance and risk management programs and solutions.  

In addition to being a Licensed Insurance Advisor (LIA) and a licensed property/casualty insurance broker, Greg also holds an active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, which he achieved while working with Ernst & Young’s Boston office prior to joining NorthStar’s team in 2010.  



Patrick Tyler is a Construction Risk Advisor with RogersGray, part of The Baldwin Group.  Pat specializes in the construction industry and holds Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist-CRIS and Associate in Risk Management-ARM designations and was recently featured as a Workers’ Compensation Power Broker by Risk & Insurance magazine.
